Some on-line route planners do not produce the best routes to Pwllheli especially for those towing trailers.
Except where there is a specific reference to the contrary, all the following routes are suitable for towing.
Please note that North Wales
Police are strict enforcers of all speed limits.

The fastest way from M6 junction 20:
M56 westbound; A5117; A550; A494; A55 westbound to junction 10 or 9; A487 through Caernarfon; A490 to Pwllheli. Entering Pwllheli 30 zone turn left at first roundabout then third right over bridge and level crossing then immediately left (follow Marina sign).
The Tunnels and Headlands on the A55 are subject to scheduled contraflows during mid-weeks out of season.
Until July 2009 there are roadworks for 6 miles on the A490 around Clynnog. There is a 30 mile an hour speed limit and temporary traffic lights throughout the length of the roadworks. At times of heavy traffic there will be significant delays and it will be worthwhile taking the following route (which is less than 4 miles further):
At the large roundabout approximately 3 miles south of Caernarfon take the slip road left to continue on the A487 towards Porthmadog. After 10 miles on leaving the 40 zone through Bryncir, at a sweeping left hand bend, take the right turn onto the B4411 to Criccieth where you turn right onto the A497 to Pwllheli. Entering Pwllheli 30 zone take first left over bridge and level crossing then immediately left (follow Marina sign). Though a little narrow in a couple of places if you are towing a largetrailer, it is worth turning right off the B4411 after approximately 1.5 miles (on leaving the 40 zone through Rhoslan) to Llanystumdwy. At the T junction turn right and right again to join the A497 to Pwllheli.
There are also roadworks on the A55 in both directions around Halkyn (between J32 and J33) until spring 2009. They are normally in place between 10:00 Monday (10:00 Tuesday when the Monday is a Bank Holiday) and 14:00 Friday and can often cause a 20 minute delay in which case it may be better to follow the route immediately below:
