Recent Consultations
On Saturday 21st January we completed a further round of consultations which started with a pre public consultation on Monday evening for our members followed by a full public consultation on Tuesday 17th January where the architects and members of the project team were in attendance to answer questions and listen to your comments and suggestions.

There was a further opportunity for our members and guests to study the latest plans on Saturday 21st January. The exhibition material will be displayed in Neuadd Dwyfor for the week commencing 23rd January. We understand that there has been a good response to the request for ideas and comments. These are now being collated and analysed by the design team together with representations made by your Management Committee. Copies of the public consultation material are available by following the links from this article.

If you have ideas which you think should be considered it is not too late. Please do so by replying to this e-mail.

Further Meetings/Consultations
We will also arrange further meetings as and when the design of the building is developed and when revised plans become available.

There will also be a further public exhibition prior to the submission of the formal planning application when more detail will be available. We anticipate this will be in early March.

Endorsement to proceed at meeting of 5 February 2011  Copy here.
When the Members met on 5 February 2011 endorsement was given to the proposal, subject to three conditions  being met to the  satisfaction of your Management Committee (MC). We are pleased to tell you that good progress is being made on all three of these items.
1:Design
Firstly the MC is confident that the final design will meet with our requirements and will provide the accommodation that is needed for Members, Eventers and Public users. This will include the Members’ room discussed on 5th February 2011.
2:Governance
Secondly, considerable work has been undertaken on the governance and management of the new facility and the MC is satisfied that this new arrangement will not only protect and preserve the independence of the Members’ club but will also provide the best management arrangement for this complex multi function facility through a new not  for profit company. The day to day running of the facility will be undertaken by a professional centre manager employed by the company.
3:Sustainability
With the new Governance arrangements the independence of the Members’ Club is assured and its long-term security preserved.  The MC is therefore confident that the Club will be sustainable in the future.

Work Starts Soon.
We are informed that in order to meet the timetables set by the grant authorities, work will start on the new road at the end of this month. This will inevitably lead to some inconvenience but we hope that by undertaking this work at this time of the year the disruption to members, berth holders and the businesses on the Glan Don peninsula will be minimised. This work will be completed by the end of April and there will be temporary arrangements in place to assist with parking and road crossing facilities until the new building has been completed.

The work on the building will start at the end of this season and should be completed by the autumn of 2013.

The work on the berths is also due to start in September and should be completed so that the new berths and launching facilities will be available for use next year.

Suggestions
We value your suggestions regarding any aspect of this exciting project and if you have further ideas or comments please do so by replying to this e-mail and indicate whether you wish for your comments to be made available on our web site here.

An excellent response was received to the public consultation at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club held on Tuesday 17th January with many taking the advantage of the opportunity to discuss the plans with the architects and members of the project team.

The architects were able to show the progres that they have made since their appointment in September.

The exhibition attracted interest from the press and here is a link to the news on the BBC ..

The present idea on the site layout is available here and the ground floor and first floor layouts are available here. These represent the work undertaken to date. Further representations have been made to the design team and these will be collated with all of the information and ideas obtained at the public consultation.

We will make further announcements as the detail plans are developed.

Academy Public Cosultation

CLICIWCH YMA Y FERSIWN CYMRAEG

Dear All,

A public consultation has been arranged in Pwllheli that will provide an opportunity to receive the comments, ideas and opinions of organisations and the public of the design of the new National Sailing Academy and Events Centre at Pwllheli.

The event will be held at Pwllheli Sailing Club Tuesday 17 January 2012 from 12pm -8pm. Come and be part of designing the exiting new Academy building. There will be an opportunity to see the initial ideas and give your input. Ellis-Williams Architects in partnership with local architects Dobson:Owen Architects have been selected to design the iconic centre and they will be present to lead the consultation process and to receive feedback.

This will be an open, drop-in event, however, if you wish to arrange a time to discuss the project specifically with the architects I would appreciate if you could contact me before hand to make arrangements. One to one or group sessions can be arranged.

The exhibition will remain on display at the Pwllheli Sailing Club for the remainder of the week, and will be on show at Neuadd Dwyfor in the town during the week commencing 23 January 2012.

The £8.3 million flagship project has secured around £4 million of funding from the Welsh Government through the European Regional Development Fund and the Targeted Match Fund. When it opens in 2013, the Sailing Academy promises to attract thousands of extra visitors to the area every year, to offer first class sailing opportunities and training for local people and a much needed new community facility for the town.

I would appreciate if you could forward this email to anyone that would have an interest.
