Dinghy Events & Socials

Events Season – July and August 2009

Once again the Club is pleased to be hosting a number of major championships for sailing dinghies – this year for the International Mirror, International Topper, International Splash and International Cadet.

There are opportunities for Members to join in the social programmes and attend other activities.

Young sailors (and parents) from Australia, Canada, Dutch Antilles, New Zealand, South Africa, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Ireland, Netherlands and Switzerland are expected to attend various events.  


 

Mirror UK National Championship (23 – 25 July)Peter Newton

  • BBQ on Friday 24 from 18.00. Tickets from the Bar

Mirror World Championship (26 – 31 July)

  • Opening Ceremony on Sunday 26 at 18.00hrs. Competitors will process along the North Quay from Pwllheli Station with the ‘Stiniog Samba Band. Welsh National Anthem. Speeches of welcome from the Chairman of Gwynedd Council and Mayor of Pwllheli. Blessing of the event and ‘Mixing of the Waters’ by Rev Meirion Lloyd Davies.

  • Welsh Night on Tuesday 28 at 19.00hrs. Local acclaimed harpist Gwenan Gibberd will be performing. Cawl and Welsh cakes. Tickets £5 from the Bar.

  • Talk about the 49ers at the Beijing Olympics by David Campbell James, RYA Competitions Manager on Thursday 30 at 19.00hrs. BBQ – tickets from the Bar.

  • Prizegiving on Friday 31 at 18.00. Live music from Derwyddon Dr Gonzo at 20.00hrs. – if you missed them at Wakestock now’s your chance.

Topper UK National Championship (2 – 7 August)

  • Inflatable Fun on the Event field on Tuesday 4 from 18.00

  • BBQ on Thursday 6 at 18.30 together with disco and karaoke

 


Splash World Championship (9 – 14 August)

  • Opening Ceremony – Parade of Flags on Sunday 9 at 18.30.

  • Harpist and BBQ on Wednesday 12 at 19.00

  • BBQ and disco on Friday 14 at 19.00


Members and guests are welcome to all these events.

There are a number of visitors from abroad looking to go afloat to watch the racing. If any boatowners – sail or power - are willing to host our guests please speak with the Office.
