RS Cobined Single Handers
Date 8 Sept - 11 Sept 2012
![]() RS 700 - Long hull with wide enough waterline provide a relatively stable platform. Stability and little tendency to nosedive are essential to make this type of sailing attainable to a range of sailors.
Flared topsides offer reserve stability.
Tried and tested RS epoxy sandwich construction system - proven in terms of ultra-light weight, high strength and virtually zero water absorption.
The deck at the bow offers maximum volume to shed water quickly if the boat drives through a wave.
Spinnaker chute mounted as far aft as possible to keep the weight back and the spinnaker clear of the water.
Cockpit design allows a secure helming position from which to initiate manoeuvres or hoist and drop the spinnaker - another crucial design element to make the boat as user friendly as possible.
Spinnaker hoisting and dropping made simple by the large chute mouth and slick pump action halyard and downhaul systems.

RS 300 - Advanced computer design process - as used on the RS600 - produces a stunning, mathematically fair hull form.
![]() Narrow waterline and fine entry provide easily driven acceleration and speed.
Flared topsides give leverage and reserve stability.
Ergonomic deck and cockpit design, arrived at after hours of development, gives a comfortable bent leg hiking position.
Staggeringly light.
Bullet proof epoxy foam sandwich construction system so the RS300 will be fast for years.

RS100 - The hull is built using an epoxy GRP composite sandwich construction for light weight, stiffness and a long competitive life.
![]() The shape is easily driven with a reasonably fine bow and sufficient waterline width further aft to give the stability desired. Flared topsides give reserve buoyancy as the boat heels, and the moulded in wings add to this. Spray rails on the chines give excellent water release and also a drier ride.
Foils
After much consultation a pivoting centreboard and rudder were chosen for their user friendliness. Launching and recovery are easy and the risk of significant damage through grounding is largely eliminated.
Cockpit
Having paid considerable attention to the wing and cockpit design, we’re pleased to report that so far most people think the RS100 is just about the most comfortable hiking boat they’ve ever sailed.
The mainsheet jammer is well forward in the cockpit, allowing smooth transition in light wind tacks and gybes, without digging the stern.
Vang and Cunningham controls are lead to the sides of the wings and the centreboard has a simple uphaul / downhaul system.
