The Club

Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club is located in the marina complex at Hafan Pwllheli.

The building is within the marina complex about 150 yards from the pontoons. It has full catering facilities, changing rooms and showers, meeting and protest rooms. There is a large bar area which opens onto a terrace with views over the Marina. For the majority of the year a marquee is attached to the building to give added facilities.

The sailing waters around Pwllheli are amongst the best in the U.K. In Cardigan Bay tidal streams are weak, winds are stable and the scenery is superb. Snowdon and the Welsh mountains providing a magnificent backdrop for any water sport.

Sailing Events which have been held in Cardigan Bay include the National BT Match Racing Finals, the Optimist Nationals, Cadet World and Nationals, Firefly Nationals, Hornet Nationals and the J24 World and European Championships, GP14's Nationals, Topper Nationals, Scorpions Nationals, Laser 2 Worlds, Osprey Nationals, Flying 15's Nationals, RS Championship, Mirror National & World Championships, RYA youth trials and championships, Splash Worlds and Flash Eurocup, One Ton Cup/ IC45 Worlds, 1720's Europeans. We are a RYA registered training centre, an 'OnBoard' Club and an official London Olympic Training Camp for Sailing the only one in Wales.

As a cruising base Pwllheli provides a secure harbour with an award winning marina. The West Coast of Ireland can be reached in less than 12 hours sailing, and Abersoch, Porthmadog, Barmouth, Aberdovey, Aberystwyth and New Quay can be reached within a few hours.

The club has an active offshore racing section with members regularly taking part in ISORA races. Club racing takes place from Easter until the end of October.

In addition there are local regattas, Mailspeed Marine, Dickies Beneteau Regatta Weekend, the well known Celtic Regatta and of course the usual Pwllheli Regatta.

The Club has an active Motor Boat Section with many flotilla style cruises being arranged for members.

The marina and immediate area provide all the facilities that a yachtsman or powerboat owner is likely to require.

Pwllheli and the surrounding area is a popular holiday resort and therefore there is a wide variety of accommodation available.  Contact the tourist board on 01758-613000
