Annwyl Aelodau / Dear Members Â
Dydd GwĹ·l Dewi Hapus and welcome to our March newsletter! I hope you all join me in feeling Spring is not far away, and the last couple of weeks have seen a buzz of activity getting the harbours, the pontoons, boats and our club ready for the season. Â
Thanks to the volunteers who have already spent time cleaning the Plas Heli pontoons, they are looking great! |

‍New CHPSC Starting HutÂ
A sad victim of last year's Storm Darragh was our race starting hut, situated on the roof of one of our previous club buildings over by Gimblet Rock. We received the devastating news the next day, that the hut was destroyed and all our comms, signalling and racing equipment had been scattered and exposed to the elements. A work party of our racing members quickly rescued what they could, and we set about exploring options for a new hut. |
|
|---|
We are immensely grateful to announce that thanks to very kind sponsorship from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park, a new hut is in the final stages of being completed in time for the new racing season. Â
The hut, designed and built very swiftly by Nefyn sheds, was lifted into place last week, and erected on site. Graeme and Tai Harrold, and Paul Kitteringham worked tirelessly, for hours in tidying and prepping the site and afterwards re-laying the floor slabs. We are now simply awaiting windows, which will be here in good time for the racing season. |
|
|---|
View from the New Starting Hut | ‍ I’d also like to say a huge thank you on behalf of everyone in the Sailing Club, to Wil Partington of Partington Marine for his help with his cherry picker in lifting the hut into place. All the equipment has been collated, assessed, tested, washed, repaired and stored by Peter Dunlop and Vicky Cox, and will by winging its way back into the hut soon, ready for the forthcoming season. It truly has been a great effort by members and sponsors to turn round, what seemed like a devastating situation at one point. Â
If anyone would like to volunteer to help with our race management, in our new starting hut, training can be given. Please send me a message at flag.officers@pwllhelisailingclub.co.uk. Â
Thank you! |

Racing in the Caribbean.CHPSC was represented on the World stage with Pata Negra and Mojito competing in the prestigious RORC Caribbean 600 - a classic non-stop 600nm race around 11 Caribbean islands, starting and finishing in Antigua. There were 53 boats competing in the IRC Overall Class. Â
Pata Negra, Andrew and Sam Hall, and team were 14th Overall and 3rd in IRC Class 1. Â
Peter Dunlop and Vicky Cox, and the Mojito team, were 18th Overall and Second in Class 2. Â
Both of our Pwllheli teams also dominated the podium in CSA class 2, with Pata Negra in top spot and Mojito 3rd, missing out on 2nd place by just 1 second. Both teams certainly put Pwllheli sailing club on the map resulting in a few lessons on how to pronounce Pwllheli. Â
Mojito, also enjoyed several wins in the RORC Nelsons Cup and 4th in the Antigua 360, finishing as runner up in the series…. no mean feat considering Mojito literally only arrived with hours to go before racing commenced! Well done Team Mojito!! |
