We have received a notice of intended monitoring works on the sea bed in the vacinity of teh Fairway Buoy.

Gwynedd Councils and Ymgyngjoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy are progressing through the complex process of assessing the feasibility of dredging the Marina and pumping the accumulated silt from the harbour into the bay.
As part of this process, they have commissioned Consultants to undertake detailed modelling work. This modelling will identify where the silt would disperse under various conditions and will be critical to any application for permission to proceed.
To provide accurate data for the model, contractors will install a specialist Acoustic Wave and Current (AWAC) sensor on the seabed near the ‘Fairway’ buoy (please see the attached plan).
The installation is scheduled for late November or early December (date to be confirmed) and the sensor will remain in place for a minimum of 35 days.
We are asked to take extra precautions whilst navigating in the area around the 'Fairway Buoy .
The sensor’s location will, of course, be clearly marked with a buoy, and a 'Notice to Mariners' will be issued with full details. In the meantime, this advance notice is to assist with any planning for your upcoming events and activities.
The advance notice is received as part of the work of the Pwllheli Harbour Consultative Committee work, and our respose on behalf of all harbour users is as follows:
We fully agree that this is an extremely important project for everyone who uses the harbour, and it is encouraging to see the work progressing with the support of experts.
Regarding the method of depositing dredged material at sea, we believe this is a very sensible solution – especially given that the vast majority (over 90%) of the silt originates from the sea in the first place. This approach has been used successfully in several other locations and offers a practical and sustainable way of addressing local challenges.
We appreciate the commitment to sharing information in advance with harbour users, and we will ensure that any relevant updates are communicated clearly and in a timely manner.
